LTX-2.5: open video you can run on your own machine

What changed

LTX-2.5 from Lightricks is a 22 billion parameter model that makes video and matching audio in one go. It came out in August 2026 and was still the newest LTX model on October 28. The weights are open under the LTX-2.x Community License, which is free for any use, client work included, while your company makes under $10 million a year. It is not a classic open source licence like MIT.

Who should care

If you have an NVIDIA card with 24 GB of video memory (RTX 3090, 4090, 5090), the free LTX Desktop app runs the full grid, including 1080p at 10 seconds. A 12 to 16 GB card works with limits, around 720p for 8 to 10 seconds. On a Mac you need Apple Silicon, macOS 26 and 32 GB or more.

Who can skip

If your card has under 12 GB of video memory, it sits below the comfortable floor, and a Mac with under 32 GB gets no local generation at all. You would be renting a GPU or paying per clip, so weigh that against tools you already pay for.

Try it in 15 minutes

1. Sign up for the LTX Studio Free plan (pricing), which gives 800 one-time credits.
2. Pick the LTX-2.5 model and 16:9.
3. Write one paragraph in present tense: the shot, the scene, the action, the character, the camera move and the sound. Put any spoken line in quotes.
4. Generate, then change one thing (the camera move or the line) and generate again.
5. If your machine qualifies, start the local download in the background. Keep about 100 GB of disk free.

What it costs

The model and apps are free. On Runpod, an RTX 3090 is $0.50 an hour, an RTX 4090 $0.89 and an RTX 5090 $1.19, with a $10 minimum credit. The LTX API fast model is $0.09 per second at 720p, so $0.54 for a 6 second clip. LTX Studio paid starts at $15 a month.

Honest limits

The LTX Studio free plan is personal use only, so do not use those credits for client work. Each run uses a new random seed and LTX's own docs say on-screen text is not guaranteed, so plan on two or three tries. The core download is about 72 GB, which takes hours on most home connections. And LTX Desktop is still in beta.
